VPN Connected but No Internet? Phone Troubleshooting Guide

If your VPN app says connected but websites will not load, first identify whether the problem affects your connection, the VPN session or one app. Buying a different subscription before checking this can leave the same issue unresolved. This guide gives a simple test order and a record you can send to support. It does not promise a particular speed or access to a service that restricts VPN use.
Start with a small, repeatable test
Choose a normal public webpage that you do not need to sign into. Record whether it loads on Wi-Fi and mobile data, then record the result with the VPN connected. For any comparison without the VPN, use a trusted network and avoid sensitive activity. If your workplace or device policy requires a VPN, leave it enabled and ask your administrator to perform the comparison.
Make one change at a time. A useful note is “Android phone, home Wi-Fi, provider app connects, two public webpages fail; the same test works on mobile data.” It is more helpful than “VPN is slow” because it identifies the device, network and symptom. Do not include your password or subscription login in the note.
Read the failure pattern
| Test result | Possible explanation | Useful next step |
|---|---|---|
| Webpages also fail without the VPN | The underlying internet connection may be unavailable. | Check the Wi-Fi or mobile connection before changing the VPN subscription. |
| One network fails; another works | The network path or its restrictions may differ. | Record both results for the provider or network administrator. |
| One server fails; another works | A particular server or connection route may be involved. | Use an available supported server and report the failing one. |
| Only one website or app fails | That service may have its own outage, account issue or VPN policy. | Check the service’s official status and help information. |
These patterns narrow the investigation; they do not prove a cause. Repeat the same small test after each change so that you can tell which change helped. Avoid running multiple speed tests while trying to diagnose a complete loss of connectivity.
Try the provider’s normal connection controls
Update the VPN app from its official store or vendor source and restart the app or device. Select another supported server manually. If your provider offers protocol selection, try its available options one at a time and restore the previous choice if the result is worse. Protocol names and menus vary across providers and app versions.
For NordVPN on Android, the current support instructions place VPN protocol under the profile area, then Settings. NordVPN also recommends checking the current app version, another server and another network when internet access fails. See NordVPN’s Android connection guide.
For NordVPN on iPhone, its support guide places protocol selection in the profile area, Settings and the VPN Connection section. Restarting the app and checking whether other VPN clients are active are also part of its troubleshooting guidance. See NordVPN’s iOS connection guide. For ExpressVPN or Surfshark, follow that provider’s own instructions rather than copying NordVPN menu names.
Keep disruptive resets for a supported escalation
Do not factory-reset your phone or remove unrelated security tools to fix a routine connection problem. A network-settings reset can erase saved Wi-Fi information and change VPN or APN settings; NordVPN explicitly notes these effects in its guides. If support recommends a reset, understand what will be lost and make sure you can restore the needed settings first.
On a managed work device, ask the administrator before changing profiles or security configuration. Use one intended VPN connection at a time, and have support identify conflicting software rather than switching protections off indiscriminately.
Send a useful support record
Prepare the provider name, phone model, operating-system version, VPN-app version, selected protocol, server, network type and exact error message. Include the two or three tests you already completed. An approximate time helps the provider relate the issue to a possible incident.
If official support requests connection logs, use its official private support channel and review what the file contains. For a Chandu Digital order enquiry, share your order reference and a redacted screenshot through our contact page. Never post logs or account credentials in public comments.
If you have not bought a plan yet, compare account ownership, device limits and renewal terms in our VPN buying guide for Pakistan, then review the available VPN service enquiries. A clear quote and suitable access arrangement come before payment.
